PLASTIC AND AESTHETIC SURGERY: NOSE CORRECTION (RHINOPLASTY)
Because it is the central feature of the face, the nose often attracts unwanted attention. A particularly large or very crooked nose cannot be easily concealed in the way other imperfections on the body can be. When the nose is out of proportion to the rest of the face it disrupts the natural harmony of a person's facial expressions and is very conspicuous. In many cases, the people affected grow up with a crooked or particularly large nose and are constantly reminded of it. This problem, which is generally regarded as a cosmetic flaw, can develop into a real psychological burden for many people. However, if they decide to have nose correction surgery, (rhinoplasty) they will soon be able to (quite literally) breathe easy again.
Rhinoplasty is suitable for people who are unhappy with their nose and can clearly define what it is that disturbs them. Often there will be a medical problem in addition to any aesthetic flaw (e.g. impaired breathing due to narrowing of the partition between the nostrils). This can be corrected during the same surgical procedure. Nasal surgery may also be required to correct injuries received as the result of an accident.
